After a couple of days using my new ThinkPad T14s, I really like the new keyboard, compared to the keyboard on the T470s. The keys have a slightly shallower stroke and feel more clicky/tactile. I thought it would be difficult to improve on the keyboard from the T470s, but then again, I thought that about the keyboard on my old X220 as well. To be fair, I think they are all good, but I'm really liking this new one.
I've just been asked to extract an audio clip from a recording of a local radio station where one of our team gave an interview. /me fires up Audacity
Giving Fedora 39 a try in a virtual machine. It looks and feels like another solid release. If I wasn't a Debian user, I'd be a Fedora user, no doubt.
Good morning, coders!

Asking AI to draw a man with a big beard thumping his fists on his desk and yelling "SYSTEMD" in the style of a 2000ad comic, on behalf of a friend.

Installed Debian on my new ThinkPad T14s tonight. Everything seems to be working nicely and it definitely feels like a good upgrade over my old T470s. Geekbench results:
T470s: 1242 single-core - 2592 multi-core
T14s: 2427 single-core - 10519 multi-core
TBH, the numbers don't mean much to me, other than being a metric to justify the investment in new hardware. Anyhow, I think I'm going to enjoy this device.
Mostly writing PHP today, just the normal input output stuff. I also updated the DNS records for a domain and switched it to a new server that I provisioned last week, so there is that.
I've ordered a ThinkPad T14s Gen 3 as a replacement for my T470s. It should arrive tomorrow. I'd better start making a backup of my home directory. I think I'm going to give Borg a try -- I remember hearing about it on the Linux Matters podcast and I've been wanting to give it a try since. www.borgbackup.org
Today, I ditched my desktop computer in favour of using my laptop. My desktop has a 10th gen Intel CPU and my laptop has a 7th gen Intel CPU. Other than that, both machines have a 1TB NVMe drive and 16GB of RAM. The laptop is perfectly usable, but also noticeably slower. I may require a new laptop.
This morning I am provisioning a new Debian Bookworm server and migrating a bunch of websites.
Reading and watching all the news about the new Qualcomm Oryon chips and I'm excited for the future. What I would really like to see is a Linux compatible laptop with:
1. The build quality/look of a ThinkPad.
2. The performance and battery life of MacBook Pro M1/2/3.
3. The fanlessness (definitely not a word) of the MacBook Air.
Not asking for much really.
"sudo: zip: command not found"
What? How long have I been using this system? Why is zip not installed?
Starting my morning by blocking a Ukraine based IP address that is constantly hitting a web server. The server hosts a UK only web store, so pretty sure it's not valid traffic. Will need to monitor this.
I currently work across multiple PC devices, a desktop at work and a desktop and laptop at home. I would like to reduce the number of devices I use and maintain, so I'm planning on just using the laptop in future. The laptop is a ThinkPad T470s and it's my favourite device to use, although not as powerful as my desktops. Anyhow, I've just ordered a spare power brick for the laptop and a USB-C to HDMI adaptor so that I can use the laptop with a couple of external displays at work.
Goofy MOFO

How do you politely inform someone that their flippant use of punctuation, such as multiple exclamation marks in article titles, is bad form? This person also uses multiple periods (not always the same number) in place of an ellipsis. I'm not a grammar Nazi, but this stuff grates on me.

Monday morning and I'm inspecting my todo list for the week. The outlook is fair with a lot of PHP and a smattering of JavaScript on the horizon.
